Indeed, the CGS is a program created by the federal government to guarantee poor children access to basic conditions for their development.

This emerged in 1998 as a way to soften the legacy left by Apartheid, which lasted from 1948 to 1994. Today, the program serves families distributed in all nine provinces of the country.

In addition, the number of children assisted by the CGS grows yearly. It reached the number of 13 million last year.

In practice, registered families receive a monthly allowance to cover household expenses related to the children. The money reaches the family in the form of payment in cash or deposits in electronic banks.

An income criterion was established to define which families can receive this aid. The amount depends on the number of children under 18 in the family. The more children, the greater the amount received.

To enroll in this program, it is not necessary to be a biological parent. However, you must prove that you are the legal guardian of one or more children and that they live with you.

In addition, the CGS only applies to families native to the country or who have permanent residence in South Africa.

In effect, each family will receive the monthly amount of R480 for each child. Thus, a family with three minor children will receive R1,440, for example.

There is a limit on the number of children registered only for families with non-biological or non-adoptive children. In this situation, the same family can only receive the aid amount for up to six children.
