Social Relief of Distress Program, reaching out to help families in need secure their basic needs in difficult times

Advertisement

The Social Relief of Distress is the solution that the government has found to help needy families that are not served by any other federal program or private initiative. Through this program, people facing illnesses, catastrophes or financial difficulties can count on monetary aid, vouchers or food baskets to guarantee their own needs and those of their family. It is a momentary help for specific periods, but it can be extended for a longer period if necessary.

Getting the help you need doesn't have to be difficult! Learn about four features that make this program extremely valuable aid for families going through difficult times:

Simple, quick and easy application process: just fill in a form and send some documents;
You can prove your needy status through a statement from a boss, counselor or religious leader who knows your situation;
You can count on this help even without being registered in any other government program;
There is no maximum number of places for applicants, nor will you be required to pay any fee to apply.

Since Social Relief of Distress is an assistance program for people with urgent needs, it would not make sense to make those who apply for this program wait longer to receive help. Thus, your request will be processed immediately and you will receive the first installment of the aid already in the month that you requested the aid, even if you have not presented all the documents necessary for the request.

Once you are approved to receive SRD assistance, you will be entitled to receive this assistance for three consecutive months and this will happen regardless of any situation. The only ways to have your service interrupted is if fraud is detected in your registration, if you inform the responsible body that you no longer need the help or if you do not deliver all the documentation requested for your registration by the date you receive the second installment of the help.

Each accepted registration is entitled to receive up to three months of continuous assistance. After this period, the registration is automatically closed. However, you can add documents proving that your situation is still in need and go to a Social Security office to request your participation in this project for another three months. Your “re-application” will be processed and evaluated again. If accepted, you will continue to receive this assistance for another three months.
